- Reese Witherspoon stars in SWEET HOME ALABAMA, a charming romantic comedy directed by Andy Tennant. Witherspoon is Melanie Carmichael, a Southern girl who leaves her past behind in order to find success as a fashion designer in New York City. On the night of a hugely important show, her charming and romantic boyfriend, Andrew (Patrick Dempsey), proposes to her. It is at that point that Melanie flees for Alabama, hoping to take care of some unfinished business before Andrew and his mother, New York mayor Kate Hennings (Candice Bergan), discover the truth about her. The truth is that Melanie, whose real last name is Smooter, is still married to her childhood sweetheart, Jake (Josh Lucas), who refuses to grant her a divorce. As Melanie reunites with her parents and old friends, she is forced to reevaluate her new-and-improved self. In the process, she rediscovers a love that she thought she had lost. Tennant's film is elevated by Witherspoon's mere presence. Her rare blend of intelligence, wit, and beauty are a wonder to behold. Adding to the charm are Lucas and Dempsey, who portray characters who are hard to root against.

SWEET HOME ALABMA
Sweet Home Alabama is one of my favorites. Down to earth country people act their way through this movie and it is so great it makes you wish you were there. You can just feel the need to want to jump into the movie and be an extra. Resse Witherspoons southern accent makes the movie. A country girl living in the city about to be married to the Senators son and has to come home to her sweet country routes makes it all start to flow again.Now she has a very nice looking husband and when she drives up to her country home and he comes out and he's holding a starter off his old truck and has grease all over him,sees her and is just in shock! he drops the starter. Her reply is to at that point and time in the movie is fantastic. The old blood hand starts to bark and their arguing,it could'nt get any better. Laughter fills your stomach and a smile is what comes out. Then she is arrested and she has to make contact with her mother and father and she was a going to try to avoid them,slip in and get her divorce and leave and she has to call her dad to get her out of jail. When she gets out the next day heads in to town and finds out he has money in the bank and it is still community property she decides to decorate the house and cook him supper. Oh but he comes home he is in shock again and stands there with his mouth wide open. Then he finds out she took his money from the bank he looks like he is mad but he's not he is actually glad she is there. Then he tells her he has a hot! date and heads to the bar she follows and everyone is glad to see her but she starts drinking and gets louder as she talks and then she starts putting down on everybody and out the door she goes and he follows her leaves his date and she has a accident in his truck if you know what I mean. He takes her to her parents and puts her to bed and signs the divorce papers and leaves them on her pillow.The next morning oh! she looks rough and she heads to tell her friend she is sorry and when she goes to leave a reporter from New York is there and she is like oh! what do I do (because the whole time she is pretending to be Melanie Carmicheal and not Melanie Smooter whom she is actually suppose to be. Then her friend finds them inside the house and goes along with her plan. She is still trying to talk to Jake and get him to sign the divorce papers and he keeps avoiding her and then her fiance' shows up and Jake is the one who takes him to find Melanie at the battlefield where her father is at doing a pretend remake of the Civil War. Andrew and her have a argument when he finds out who she really is and he leaves but Melanies father brings him back and they make up and the wedding is going to be right there in Alabama. Andrew's mother is fit to be tied as she comes to Alabama to meet the Smooter's,she pretends she loves it and them. So the wedding plans are being made and the wedding continues. I can't tell you any more I would be giving away the rest of the movie. But if you get a chance buy it!watch it!you won't be disappointed. Because everybody gotta love Sweet Home Alabama.I bought this movie because as you can tell I Love It!!!!!!Read full review

Great Funny Movie!!!
Reese Witherspoon really shines in this movie about a southern girl turned city clothes designer about to marry the Mayor of New York City's son who is still in love with her husband in Alabama but doesn't realize it until she returns there to try to convince him to sign the divorce papers and finds out that he owns a glass making business that she had no idea he had even started after she left him to go to NYC!!! Of course it does not hurt that the leading men are hotties Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey. An absolute MUST SEE!!!

My daughter really likes this movie and has asked for it many times. The price for this item was too attractive to resist. My daughter played the movie immediately after receiving it. Of course, I watched it with her. There is nothing wrong with the movie, the quality is perfect. "Sweet Home Alabama" is a love triangle type story containing humor, interesting personalities, recognition of traditional values, expression of a true love / soul mate theme, and a touch of eye-tearing romance.
