For it's time period this movie was ok, I think if they'd had a better budget it could've been better. What I am here to tell you that most people don't know is that if you look on the back of the box where some of the credits are you will see that the movie was actually written by Joss Whedon. Buffy the Vampire Slayer the TV show was not created as a Buffy Movie knock off. Joss Produced the TV series as well as wrote the movie. The TV series is supposed to take place AFTER the movie. If you know the TV series, you know that Buffy lived in L.A before she came to Sunnydale, the Movie is merely her life before Sunnydale (of corse with a few holes).
BLONDE, BOUNCY BUFFY (KRISTY SWANSON) IS YOUR TYPICAL HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADER-HER GOAL IS TO "MARRY CHRISTIAN SLATER AND DIE" AND NOTHING GETS IN HER WAY WHEN IT'S TIME TO SHOP. BUT ALL THAT CHANGES WHEN A STRANGE MAN (DONALD SUTHERLAND) INFORMS HER SHE'S BEEN CHOSEN BY FATE TO KILL VAMPIRES. WITH THE HELP OF A ROMANTIC REBEL (LUKE PERRY), BUFFY IS SOON SPENDING SCHOOL NIGHTS PROTECTING L.A. FROM LOTHOS, THE VAMPIRE KING (RUTGER HAUER), HIS SIDEKICK,LEFTY (PAUL REUBENS),AND THEIR DETERMINED GANG OF BLOODSUCKERS. IT'S EVERYTHING YOU'D EXPECT FROM A TEEN QUEEN IN THE VALLEY.
Joss Whedon is a fantastic writer, but Hollywood's version of Buffy (the movie) doesn't hold a candle to Buffy the TV series. The movie was somewhat entertaining, and if they had never made the TV series, it would have been fine. However, now that we all know about the 7 season TV show, and how it really can be done, the movie looks particularly bad. It is campy, there is not as much backstory as there should have been, and the over-the-top Hollywood style shows through. The movie did have Kristy Swanson, David Arquette, Luke Perry and Donald Sutherland, which is cool. However, if you are a serious fan of Buffy the TV series (like myself), then you probably should see this movie to see how "it all started", but be aware it has a very different flavor to it than Buffy the TV series!
I bought this item because I wanted to finish off my Buffy series & movies. I liked this movie because of the different story about the Vampires. I do not like the way that the Vampires die. They always ash or dry up to dust, when the second in command vampire was staked through the heart he played like it hurt for close to a minute & then just fell. That was it nothing else. Also when the Leader of the vampires was staked through the heart he just fell & covered his head with his cape. That was just so fake & no where to any of the stories of deaths of vampires. Like I said I bought it to finish my collection of the Buffy series & movies.
Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer and Luke Perry star in this 1992 horror comedy. A California high school cheerleader is chosen to slay the undead. I've always liked this film and Kristy is so cute. This dvd has decent picture and sound plus a couple neat extras. Pick up this good horror comedy.
I'm glad I found this movie because I'm a HUGE movoe collector that is always looking for the oldies but goodies.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (The Movie!) is a cult classic and one of my favorite 90s era movies. It's storyline is concise, humorous, and leaves out all the unnecessary extras.
