FFF Details Producer: Dann Huff Distributor: EMI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a Album notes While Metallica was busy climbing to the top of the thrash-metal heap, Dave Mustaine and Megadeth were quietly carving out a niche for themselves, distinguished by intelligent songwriting and a progressive approach that avoids erratic genre-jumping. Mustaine's breadth of song subjects continues to expand on CRYPTIC WRITINGS, with topics ranging from stalkers ("I'll Get Even") and drug addiction ("Use The Man") to Armageddon wrapped in a cloak of punk anarchy ("The Disintegrators") Some of CRYPTIC WRITINGS' cooler touches include the electric sitar on "A Secret Place" and the acoustic guitar, mellotron and synths on the multi-part opening track "Trust". Throughout the album, guitarist Marty Friedman displays the exponential growth his playing has undergone since his days with Cacophany. His impressive sense of rhythm comes to the fore on "Almost Honest" and "Have Cool, Will Travel."Read full review
There's a reason why I like this album alot, this is the first Megadeth album I listened too and it made me a fan of this band. This album has both Megadeth element from 80's & 90's, from mid tempo, up tempo to the speed one. The opening track Trust becoming one of Megadeth classic that still being played till present. Vortex, She-wolf, The disintegrators, FFF are songs that still sounds like the 80's Megadeth. Other songs like A secret place, Almost honest, Sin, Use the man, Mastermind etc sounds like a natural progression from their previous 2 records Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia. The songs Sin (Evi's that within), FFF(Bullprick) & Vortex were actually written & has been recorded during Youthanasia period under a different song title. It was included as bonus tracks on the remastered version of this album. I'll get even sounds like an experimental track and seems to have a different drum sound compare to the rest. Overall this is a solid Megadeth record musically and the sound production is great. This would be Megadeth latest album with their classic line up (Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson , Marty Friedman & Nick Menza)Read full review
It's been more than 10 years since I bought this record and just like the other Megadeth record, it stand the test of time and I still enjoy listening to this album till today. The only track I dislike would be I'll get even. Have cool will travel also doesnt really get me but still a pretty cool tune. If you like Megadeth then I dont see why you wouldn't like this record. Trust, A secret place, FFF, She-wolf, Vortex, The disintegrators, Use the man,etc they're all great tracks! Mastermind riff has a robotic/futuristic feel to it like Pyschotron from Countdown to Extinction.
Very listenable cd. Megadeths a killer group! Dave Mustang did good!!!

I bought this cd just to ad to the Megadeth collection. Being the least popular of the albums too most people, I expected the worst and hoped for less. Well this cd was great. I love every single track it offers. Not only does it offer the thrash from previous albums, It shows you the capabilities of Dave's unique way of making music works. Giving you a foresight of what the future holds for Megadeth & Dave. I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes a good rock/metal/thrash jam. Of course the everyday Megadeth lover needs this as well. Overall this album is one of my favorites, It may be different but what's not too like?
This is just one of Megadeth's great sounding CD's. This is well worth the money you spend to own this CD. If your a Megadeth fan then Cryptiic Writings is a must have for your Megadeth collection...

Alot of great songs on cryptic writings. A must have for any MEGADETH fan especially when it's an original release. The remixed & remastered version is great too with bonus tracks

My choice is buying Megadeth-Cryptic Writting is a two fold process. First, I am working on my Guitar. Playing Megadeth is very fun and a good way to strech my fingers for Dave's solos. Second, I am "Deth" fan for a very long time. His style and hard-hitting songs help me though a lot of dark times.
