May 2017 Update: Updating the original May 2016 review to further endorse this product. Since installing the bulbs in 2015, NONE have failed! Not one. I will mention that a few lenses have cracked - probably due to the extreme AZ heat and exposure to the elements. They are enclosed in sealed Malibu light fixtures, so no problems. Inside use would not have this effect. I remain impressed by the light output and consistency in color. As stated in the original review, spend once and forget about them. These are the best available. I purchased these in 2015 for use in landscape lighting fixtures. With over 6 months of daily use in the AZ heat, I'm happy to report not one failure or issue with any of the bulbs purchased. I, too, purchased several different brands of cheaper, foreign made bulbs. Some were dead on arrival and most burned out between 3 weeks and 2 months. Variation in color was a big problem as well. This is a quality bulb with perfect light output. They are much brighter than standard 20w MR 16 halogen bulbs and they are all perfectly color matched. I am the designer of this bulb. I live out on a large parcel of land and it gets very dark out there. I had a couple of very close calls with rattlesnakes and decided I needed many outdoor lights. I tried to buy halogen bulbs, but the energy draw on this was so high that my 1,000 watt transformer would only handle a mere 20 malibu lights! I knew I needed LED bulbs but the prices were very high at home depot and lowes and even costco! Some of the bulbs were over $20 each!! I tried many bulbs from china on EBAY and AMAZON, but the bulbs were JUNK....the light color was off, the light output was very poor, and the bulbs had crappy, lightweight heat sinks and failed after a month or two. I have a minor in physics and understand how LED technology works decided to make my own bulbs. I designed several heat sinks, went through many different designs and settled on my "swirled" silver heavy aluminum sink which is new in 2016 and represents an improvement over my 2014 heat sink. I used the best quality LED driver I could find, along with stainless steel components, copper wiring and a lexan spot lens. Its really the best 5w replacement bulb you can get at any price. I have sold THOUSANDS of these bulbs and havent had a return yet! Try a few in each color that I offer (red, deep blue, amber and green and warm white) you'll be please and you'll save plenty on your electric bill. They will make your home look great at night! I have over 100 malibu lights on my property and my WEMO switch tells me that I use less than $20 per month keeping these on from dusk until 1:00am. No snakes to be seen and it is great for home security. My colored bulbs are very eye catching and unique. I took FOREVER looking for the best LED chips and getting the color tuned juuuuuust right. I guess these have become vintage status as they're not available where I used to find them and the new ones with a different style bulb insert are not worth installing even if they were free, more of a hassle to have to install ones that would do what the new version was supposed to. I was thrilled to find these were still available because my last set lasted 15 years and counting, I just had to add to my extended project.
