Tons of power. My fist use for this was mixing paint and is handled the chore easily. I also blasted a bunch of 1" holes through steel with a hole saw. I like the three speed gear box because it has so much power it will spin way too fast for some jobs (like paint mixing and using a hole saw) without choosing a slower speed. Yes, it has a variable speed trigger, but I noticed that the trigger can be a little difficult to modulate - on high speed, it can suddenly jump from slow to almost full speed with very little change in pressure on the trigger.
The only negative is that if is a little on the heavy side, especially with the flexvolt batteries, but that was expected. It feels like a quality tool and performs great.
much higher power levels than currently the most powerful Dewalt DCD996 or DCD997 models
it uses a new type of Dewalt technology that is currently unavailable in EU or UK brand Dewalt tools, also comes with an 'E' clutch to protect against motor overload. It is a DCD999
Heavy duty 20v Beast , its name is Debo, when Debo comes out the stuff goes flying ! The Dewalt 999 is great with a 5 amp hour battery I drilled 3" holes with a 3 " hole saw in 1st gear holding on for dear life , it's really strong , 3rd gear is super fast drilling holes in wood with 1" spade bits , gear 2 is your all around beast mode getter done speed, it has been a great addition to my yellow and black attack! 🐝
Excellent drill. Works great with an ice auger. Using 20 volt 4 or 5 AH batteries ….are plenty strong. Powerful, brushless motor, flex volt 60 volt batteries a nice option for even more power and longevity a nice option as well with this drill. Would highly recommend. Nice job DeWalt.
Upgrading all of my battery powered tools to the dewalt platform and this has been the best addition so far. I'm a remodeling contractor and put it to use daily. Heavy duty, good light, the light kinda flashes when you first pull the trigger which was scary when I was doing electrical for the first time with it but it's not enough to change my opinion of this tool.
