the sounds this keyboard makes are unbelievable .the ease of changing or arranging on the fly and the volume controls for every input are a looping solo artist dream. i gave it 4 stars because there are some sound effects like birds chirping, dogs barking, wind, rain car starting ,wheels squealing, thunder and others that my 403 had. (it may have them i haven't found them yet).the 8 pads can be programmed (pre-act) with all the tracks of the song separate so you can faze them in and out effortlessly and you can save 100 songs. it's slightly complicated but once you get it it's great! READ the manual FIRST. knowing the sequence of the procedures and functions is better then pushing and guessing . my only suggestion to Roland (and all others) is to make the control screen larger and or in color, squinting over the screen in the right shade of light is a problem with most keyboard so i can't complain. other wise i'd give it 5 stars. Super-fun synth. Loaded with great and versatile sounds. Does everything I would hope for it to do in this price range and a whole lot more!! Excellent “beginner” high-end synth. The next step from this is the Fantom 0 series but at more than twice the price. Grow into that from this. Remember- you need to plug it into external speakers/monitors.

I am still in the process of getting familiar with the instrument. I have a fairly heavy touch on the keys, however, occasionally when striking a key it registers as being soft and does not play at the volume I am expecting. I believe that this is due to the electronic touch system. I would recommend that if you have the means and the space that you buy the piano keyboard version of the Juno DS (88)key with the actual piano keyboard. For what I paid for this keyboard I can deal with an occasional soft volume register.

Been using Roland since before MDI. They really nailed it on this generation. I'm a producer and play many instruments. Not master keyboardist but very experienced. I use synths also for control of m virtual instruments in Pro Tools. This is very intuitive. All the functions and the layout of the controls and screen layout are about perfect. You can load your own samples and audio files. I use PT for serious sequencing/writing but the onboard sequencer on the DS61 is very simple and intuitive to sketch with, fast. Easy to save your favorites sounds in one bank location, and the access to the controls for adjusting each sound is simple and handy for changing the ADSR, reverb, and other parameters. I could use any of these patchesin the right context on a modern pop track and it would work great. String and Pianos are real nice. Pretty warm and the reverbs are less congested sounding than the Di series to my ear. It's hard for me to imagine what more I might need from a synth.Read full review

This is a good product. Note it takes a 1/4" headphones, not a 3.5mm, as this item doesn't have a speaker. The sounds are very good. Weight of keys is good and the velocity is nice.
