Bought [ours manufacturer refurbished] specifically for kitty litter and pet hair; & it has given our one-level home a new lease on life. The robot arrived NIB with instructions for use. The robot controlling app works great on iOS, and is easy to use and install. It does appear to require an active Wi-Fi network, and/or blu-tooth device to connect and clean. You can set it up to begin automatically (time/day of the week), or you can control it yourself (allows you to pause the unit, send it back to the docking station and view the areas it had cleaned). The app also allows you control the type of cleaning you want your robot to perform (deep clean, eco mode, automatic), as well as time/duration (15 min - until the place house is clean). The unit is very large, and a bit chonky - so we named it Johnny #5. This makes it a bit difficult to maneuver into ‘hard to reach’ places (around toilets, sinks or under counters). Our pets have taken to it, without any sort of issue - considering it as dismissible as the vacuum. It does have a tendency to bump into them, as there doesn’t appear to be a ‘front forward sensor/camera’. The pathway of the robot is determined by previous cleaning, so if you add something new in its’ way, the robot will get confused by it & keep cycling back until it can clean all previously cleaned areas. It does as thorough of a job as you want it to & the ease of emptying its’ bin/butt is also very easy to do/empty. My review would honestly be a 4.5, because the only issue is the robot’s size, bumping into things + the durability of its’ parts. All seem very easy to remove, fix and replace - but the durability is suspect. Otherwise. We are very happy with Johnny #5 and consider him a part of our family. Read full review

The unit looks brand new and was easy to set up. Unit gets confused/trapped every cleaning and keeps traveling the same path repeatedly if it bumps or perceives an obstacle. It likes to clean a 2x8 area in the living room beside the rug and can’t figure out how to leave the area even though it has wide open paths. If you pick the unit up and move it to a different area it will end up in the same spot within minutes. Cleans well when it’s out and about.

Manufacturer refurbished Roomba looks & works like new for a fair price. 980 model has strong suction power & picks up a lot of dirt & carpet lint. Emptying the bin is very easy. Regularly check the air filter to remove built-up lint. Operates more quietly than typical vacuum. 980 model does not have software to map rooms that's found in more expensive Roomba models. This is not a problem; just close doors to limit it to work in specific areas which it can easily do. Then move the home station to the next closed area. It sometimes gets caught on area rugs over carpet & runs out of battery trying to free itself. I like to turn it loose when I leave for errands so it's been a time saver. Very satisfied with 980 refurbed by original manufacturer iRobot.

I had a cheaper model robovac, (not iRobot) without beater bars that I was happy with for picking up fine dust and stuff from my tile floors. Then we got a puppy and I figured I should get one that had a little more power. This baby IS powerful, and while the bin is large, sometimes I have to empty it THREE times during a "vacuum all" job. I like that it does a great job, but what I like the most is when the battery runs out, about 90 minutes, it goes back to the charger and when the battery is good again, it trucks on back to where it left off and continues the job. The only bad thing is that it will always get stuck under our recliners, so I have to put pillows on the floor at the corners to keep it away. I bought replacement filters and brushes for this machine and I expect to be using it for a good long while. It is a bit noisier than the other brand I have without beater bars, but it's not objectionable. I can still hear while talking on the phone. Super that it comes with a 2 year square trade warranty. I have dark wood floors with some carpeting and there's no dog hair laying around. Awesome!!Read full review

Great vacuum, have a model 880 that is 6 years old. Sore the tires bald! These vacuums work great (a bit stupid if you pay attention to their movements and patterns) and are well engineered and very good quality. You must maintain them; empty dust bin every couple runs and tap filter clean (I wash my filters and have many spares clean and ready to go), and ALWAYS check the rollers. Hair wraps around the spindles and can build up fast -this just puts more strain on the motor to spin the rollers. They were designed for very easy disassembly and cleaning, so that makes maintenance quick. The 980 is much louder than my 880, but it has tons more suction -so that makes sense. Since it’s online you can use the app to operate it when you are away. The App and smart mapping are the best feature!
