This is a real steel anvil for under $150, it has good b...ounce and a nice ring to it, I bought it to see if they were any good so I could recommend them to students, and I have to say you will not find a better anvil for less money. My only complaint is that this company makes a 70 kilo/110 lb anvil that I’ve seen some Canadians using, but they don’t seem to sell them in the us or on eBay, if they had the 110 lb anvil for $200-$300 shipped I would be ecstatic in my praise for it based on its smaller brother, at 66 lbs this anvil will do a lot and is better then no anvil, however if you want to do bigger work with bigger hammers the 110 lb would be better. Don’t hesitate to buy any anvil of this type, they are well worth the money.

For starters it came in at 61 pounds via NIST ...traceable scale. Almost 10% less weight than described. Secondly it’s soft steel. It’s not supposed to be hardened because striking a hardened object with another hardened object can result in cracking and chipping, BUT, it Doesn’t even appear to be tempered. A gentle swing leaves a dent. A missed full swing does fairly significant damage. Finally the horn came with a smashed over tip because it was shipped in a just-big-enough box with no padding or securing whatsoever. The picture is after an hour of use

The price is way more than fair for this muc...h steel, compared to all other options out there. I knocked off one star because there is a lot of work to be done on it before it is very usable. But I knew that when I ordered it. The anvil arrived in only a few shreds of a box left, but the item was still ok. I was concerned about the paint used, so I did strip it off. I did not want to be breathing in unknown fumes caused by hot metal vaporizing it. Instead, once stripped I coated it all in rust converter. Make a very tough black finish that is way better than the way it came. The horn needs to be ground smooth to be useful and it took quite a bit of grinding to make it happen. There is no way to get all of the pits out without losing too much metal, but I got it to be satisfactory. The casting on the sides is rather laughable. ACCHIO is optimistic, as the A was nothing but a blob. Still, this does not affect function. All of the edges needed work but the top was nice and smooth and did not need much work. As small as this anvil is, you will need to mount it well. I fabricated some simple brackets and mounted it to a log. It is much more solid now. Bottom line: If you don't mind some work this anvil can be a usable small anvil for smaller projects, knife making, or a great beginner anvil.

for it size i...t dose smaller units ok just a little hard to hold down when working larger billets that take a larger force to submit . the smaller work like nail making and some jewelry are better suited to its size, some chisels, punches, small drifts seem to work out well to produce however when you get to larger produces like hammers, axes, and larger tooling it is bothersome with the bouncing around stump and all seems it just needs more weight to be more stable.overall it's a pretty good vale for the money but it is limited and would be better at 150lbs or so for general use, i will say this it will take a beating and short of a few dents and bruises it can get the job done. i recommend this as a get to know blacksmithing,at a price that won't brake the bank and can be resold if you don't like the work, better buy than than most in that price range and it's new

They had an issue wit...h shipping and I had to wait almost 2 weeks longer than “guaranteed by” date, but I understand with the coronappocolypse chaos at the moment. Nonetheless this anvil is fantastic. Had to do some dressing on it and smoothing the horn of course. Literally does ring like a bell but a well placed magnet takes care of that. It has great rebound and I have beat the hell out of it every day for the last week and still has no significant blemishes. Very much a pleasure to use. If you’re a beginner please don’t pay big bucks on anything else right away because this anvil is all you’ll need for a long time.
