  • Lubitsch In Berlin a 1921 silent

The Wild Cat (starring Pola Negri in the title role) is a marvelous silent film made in 1921--It is a comedy and contains much satire of the military, the German audiences having had their fill of war and military governments-- But it's also a sort of loony rom-com, and seems to have been shot outdoors in the snows of the Alps (?)--The set designs are wonderful examples of a decadent Arte Nouveau--Negri, who was the first European sex symbol plays a bandit queen of the mountains, and assuming there were no stunt doubles in those days, she was quite athletic!--She was a dancer as well, as can be seen in her version of Salome--Some very sly satire and a lot of quite wild slapstick, a full-lengther, very ambitious for the time!
