It was time for me to upgrade my vise to a true rotary vise, as well as a vise that allowed me to tie on a variety of hooks sizes, from 18's (I don't tie anything smaller than an 18 -- yet) to 4/0's. After spending a little time researching the best vise for my needs and my wallet, I decided on the Mongoose. What a fantastic product and a great deal! The vise holds large and small hooks exceedingly well. It spins smoothly and easily adjusts to spin freely, under slight tension, or not at all. The bonus to this vise is that it comes loaded with extras for which you pay extra with other vises. It comes with both a pedestal and a C-clamp, a hard plastic case, bobbin cradle, Griffen bobbin, threader, and hackle gauge -- all for the same price as other comparable vises that include the vise and your choice of stand. The workmanship and value are at the top of the ladder.
I have had what I call a starter vise for many years and finally upgraded to the Montana Mongoose after much searching and reviewing. This is such a wonderful and well made vise and also made in the U.S.A. After all of my researching I decided on the Mongoose and could not be happier and the only thing I regret is that I didn't purchase this vise much sooner. It came down to three different vises and am very satisfied with my choice and it came with a carrying case, a hackle gauge and a string bobbin and all for under $190. TOP NOTCH.......

Got my first vise some 22 years ago, a basic Griffin starter vise and never upgraded until now. I tie anything from size # 18 midge patterns to masive bass and pike flies and while the old vise worked all the years of tying would have been much more efficient if I had got a rotating vise sooner. The jaws hold all hooks very well with little adjustment between large and small hooks. My old vise would pop the hooks out so my carpet has many small hooks that flew who knows where. This vise is solid and comes with accessories that with others you would have to buy separately. Having both a clamp and pedestal was a big selling point having got to a motel room and not being able to use a clamp in the tables. The rotation is likely not the best but I am happy just being able to rotate the fly especially when doing bass flies. If a person is just starting out I would still recommend this vise for the extra money it is worth it. Read full review

Quality, price and features.
I have been tying flies for years, and I was tying on a low cost fixed vise. I knew it was time to step up to a quality vise. I have contact with some of the well known fly fishers in the area and asked them for a recommendation. This is the vise they recommended. I had done a lot of research prior and this vise was on on the list, as well as higher priced vises. Having gotten a very high recommendation and the fact that the vise comes with all the extras, which other vises charge for, I decided to purchase the Montana Mongoose. I am really pleased I did. Very good value. This will be the last vise I will need to buy.

I have several different vises. Not sure why but every so often I like to try new stuff and so far this Griffin Montana Mongoose vise has been a lot of fun. The thing I have noticed the most the hook hold is extremely secure. 28 through 10 are the only sizes I've tried so far but no issues so far.
