If you ever need DC amperage, CL-800 is the one!
I shopped for an ampmeter with AC/DC years ago. This is what I found. Some of the competition makes a DC ampmeter, but they are very high dollar, and have limited versatility. I found this one with most of the features that I ever need, in one package, at a nice price - about $100. Bought it, and never regretted it.
Alas - losing a meter inside of a high temperature (600° F right next to the dessicant beds) drying machine for a period of months takes a toll on the meter. The case was warped and bent when I found it again, but it still worked. The meter has served me reasonably well for more than two years after being so abused. Alas, I'm down to wrapping large O-rings around the body to hold it together, and the batteries fall out repeatedly.
I'm returning to buy another CL-800 to replace the one I've abused to death.
The thermocouple leads are a new addition to the CL-800, and a welcome one. I'll reach for the Fluke 179 less often now that the Klein can read temps.
Read the list of features, carefully. This meter does much more than just DC amps and temperature. It is a true multimeter, and does almost everything a maintenance man, or an auto mech will ever need. I do own Flukes, but this Klein is usually the meter I reach for.Read full review
