Works awesome with laptop into eGPU into external monitors!
PROs: Pushes the very demanding X-Plane 11 Flight Sim consistently over 30 fps on a laptop with an external monitor. The card can run three monitors at one time through Display Ports for a realistic panoramic gaming experience. This double width GTX 1080 card is installed inside a Razer Core V2 eGPU connected by a Thunderbolt 3 cable to a 2016 Razer Blade Stealth I7 U7500 2.7Ghz laptop. I am amazed at the smooth no lag "gaming desktop" level performance from a razor thin ultra-book size laptop, even with flight sim realism settings cranked. Pairs perfectly and runs quietly in Razer Core V2 eGPU. All my USB peripherals are plugged into the Core V2 so I can just unplug the one (Thunderbolt 3) cable from my Stealth laptop and take it. I haven't tried this card yet with VR yet but I like that it is VR ready and that is probably my next purchase.
CONs: Expensive but not the most expensive NVIDIA GTX 1080. If you want to connect this to a laptop, you also need an equally or more expensive external GPU unit to house it in (such as the Razer Core V2). You will also need to research your laptop's capability to work with an external eGPU and probably a Thunderbolt 3 cable. If you want gaming level performance on your ultra-book/laptop, you need this setup. This setup makes my Razer Blade Stealth computer run very hot but I think that is more to do with the Core V2 then the actual card specific card in it.The card itself stays cool. I just put my laptop on an external fan cooled platform to keep it cool. Read full review
I really expected this card to be way louder because of the blower style fan but I was surprised by the little noise this does. Performance is awesome too.
