This is a mini-series about the goings-on at London's first department store called The Paradise, with plot lines that will hold the attention of both male and female audiences. Excellent acting combined with beautiful sets and exquisite costumes guaranteed to take your breath away. In addition to the episodes, don't miss the Bonus Feature interviews. They practically built an actual department store and city street, right down to the authentic building materials used in that century. I watched the televised series and enjoyed it so much that I bought the complete series on DVD. This is one production that I will watch and enjoy many times over. Watching The Paradise, is, indeed, "paradise". I was also very much surprised that the male lead, Emon Elliott, also appears in "Star Wars - The Force Awakens". Read full review
None of the characters that play in this drama have I seen elsewhere. In a way, it seems that I am really seeing this place in Scotland. Joanna Vanderham has played in other series that I have not seen. There is no doubt that she lights up the screen with her part
The chemistry of the players is wonderful in season 1. However, season 2 seemed to be too reaching to capture the magic of character interaction. It didn't happen. The intrigue of season 1 was not carried over. The cook in the kitchen does not come off well. Nor did the conspiracy to buy the Paradise from Katherine Glendening.
David Hayman as Jonas Franks was an excellent choice. So well played was his part that the 1 episode that he was written out should have in some way included him. I liked every scene he was in.
My favorites. Edmun Eliott as Moray. Joanna Vanderham as Denise. Stephen wight as Sam. David Hayman as Jonas.
Worth the money you pay for it.Read full review

My husband & i loved and now miss Downton Abbey so much... so i'm always on the lookout for similar type BBC dramas. From the start The Paradise's storyline & characters are engaging & we have looked forward to each new show. :)
This BBC series is excellent. It contains romance, mystery, and intrigue. The characters are engaging and I was always eager for the next episode. The period costumes are wonderful.
