I enjoyed the film very much except there was WAY to much Johnny Cash and the Carter’s. I have always liked their entertainment but there was a lot of other entertainers that could have been added or a little more of the ones briefly mentioned. Guess what I think is WAY TO MUCH CASH!!!!!!

Bought for gift for brother in law who loves country music. He is currently having health issues so ability to do as much as he’d like he’s limited. He watched it all and can’t wait to watch again; too much to absorb in one viewing. Informative and entertaining

The most comprehensive tour into the origins and history of country music ever made. It is historical, informative, funny, sad, and exciting. It is a trip through generations.

I am not a country music fan, but I have heard of many of the musicians, especially those in episodes 4-8. It is very interesting to hear what it was like for them to "make it" in the business (and it is a business). It has many interviews with stars and very many songs I have heard. The producers did a great job of finding old photographs and video footage and stitching the story of country music together. It was more fun than I expected.

Very informative and entertaining series about Country Music. My only real complaint is that IMO they spent way too much time on Johnny Cash, and I say that as a Johnny Cash fan, and glossed over others that should have gotten more exposue...and example is Conway Twitty was only mentioned that he did duets with Loretta Lynn and nothing about his solo career, and he was one of the most successful artist in country music. Crystal Gayle, Donna Fargo, Freddie Hart and many others not mentioned at all...maybe they couldn't get the release rights, who knows. Overall it is a really good series and I really enjoyed it and will watch again. I also have and would recommend the Concert from the Ryman that features several of the artist from this series.

Great job with a lot of history and back-stories I'd never heard. I think it could have just gone on and on and on.....but had to stop somewhere. Several artists that I expected to see covered, either were just mentioned in passing, or not at all, so there are omissions that some will take exception to and be upset about. Overall, they did an extremely good job of covering a great deal of different types of country music and their origins. Will definitely watch the series over again in the future.

I've never been a big Country Music fan, even though I grew up in a home where gospel and country were favorites of my parents. As a teenager in the 60's, I gravitated to Rock and Roll and its' off-shoots. Now that I'm in my 60's, I was surprised to be captivated by this latest documentary series by Ken Burns. By the time I heard the phrase "country music is just 3 chords and the truth" I was hooked. Ken Burns taught me the history of Country Music and awakened a deep love and respect for it within me. I would rate this series on the same level as his "Civil War" and "The War" documentaries, which I own, along with this one now in my Burns' collection. I highly recommend it.

Best on a rainy night or so. If you like music, you will be pleased. Many hours, one night won't cover it, that's for sure. 8 dvd's.
