Plug the light cord into the remote plug and plug in the wall. Ready to go. No set up needed. I can sit on my sofa and turn my Wreaths on and off. They work thru 3 walls and one of them is brick! After Christmas, I put them on lamp outlets in other rooms, throughout the house. If I hear a noise I can turn lights on from my bedroom. Absolutely a security feature.
