Large capacity, small footprint, reasonable copy speed. Take note if u use 2 large capacity external drives without an external power source (usb hub). I use the two 3 tb drives attached to the same computer at the same time - one main and one backup of files and converting personal VHS, DV, and 8mm videos of my children. I was having significant difficulties with these drives being misread and wiped for the computer does not sufficient power for 2 large capacity drives. I consulted tech and he suggested an usb powered hub. The drives work perfectly. This is not unique to these drives for i had same problem with Toshiba and Seagate drives until I consulted a tech.. He told me all large capacity drives need an external power source when multiples are used at the same time. I actually found the usb hub very useful for I added my trackball, wireless thumb drive (I have dual band, 2.4 and 5.0 router) for my computer does not have 5.0 capacity, and printer capable. I can detach the ultralight computer the usb hub is attached to and travel with it and easily attach one cable to my computer when I return.Read full review

I bought 3 of these 3 TB Portable WD hard drives on sale for 100 dollars each and they are a perfect buy. They are compact enough to fit in a shirt pocket, they are quiet when running, and hold a wealth of information. The only reason I took a star away from this review was that they go to sleep and cannot be woken up without pulling the USB cable out and putting it back in so the computer would recognize it. They go to sleep every time when not being used. I hope WD reads there reviews so they might answer this for me so I can keep my hard drive awake when I am not using it for a short period of time. One piece of advice, dont use the smartware on this hard drive as it will end up being a nuisance to your computer. Otherwise a very good hard drive.

Bought it for my son. As an external hard drive for his XBOX One 1tb. He was out of storage space with 1tb on his XBOX one. This external allowed him to install ALL of his games, effortlessly. I highly recommend this hard drive.

I was very happy to find a 3Tb drive for less than 20 dollars more than I paid for a Seagate 1Tb a couple of years ago (one of the cheapest I could find at the time). My only complaints are that it seems to be a little finicky about being moved while in use, since it has disconnected from my computer a few times when I jostled the wires while disconnecting or connecting another device in nearby USB ports. Also if I let the drive idle for a while and it spins down, then when I go to access it again in file explorer, it will freeze for several seconds while spinning back up. Still, for the price, I say it's worth dealing with the minor issues.

PROS: Drive is extremely compact with massive storage space. The price is also very reasonable. CONS: Media content on drive (e.g., movie and audio files) cannot be played on media devices with a USB port!!! OTHER THOUGHTS: I bought this drive for the sole purpose of loading it full of AVI, MKV, MP4 and FLV video files so that I can connect it to my LG Blu-ray player's USB port and watch them on my HDTV. However, none of the files on the drive could be played - not one!! My blu-ray player didn't even recognize the drive as being connected. It appears that this particular WD drive is to be used for backing up files only. It's useless if you want to play audio and video content on it from media devices with a USB port - SO BEWARE!!!! FOLLOW-UP REVIEW: I recently rated this particular drive by Western Digital a 2 out of 5 being that I was unable to watch any media content I loaded on to it when I connected it to my LG Blu-ray player. However, I've since updated it to reflect a 5 out of 5 rating because this is simply an outstanding drive! I've always purchased drives by Western Digital (external and internal) and they've always provided rock solid performance and superior reliability. This drive is no acceptation, as it delivers the great performance WD is highly known for. Ultimately, what prompted me to update this review is the fact that the LG Blu-ray player I connected my WD drive into was a bit outdated, and simply didn't recognized the drive. Nevertheless, I purchased a newer model LG Blu-ray player (LG BP550) and it recognized my WD drive instantly! I'm now able to play all my media content with ease. Simply put, this WD drive definitely works as intended, but you have to make certain that whatever you're plugging it into supports external HDD playback.Read full review
