SynopsisIn celebration of the bond between humans and their canine companions, The Dog Chapel gives readers an introduction to Stephen Huneck, his woodcuts and sculpture, and the chapel he built for dogs in St Johnsbury, Vermont, USA.
I use this book when I lose a good dog friend. My dear old friend, Fred, a Chocolate Lab that lives cross the runway from me is living the last of his beautiful live. This book is for his human Mum and Dad who have loved dear Fred from the time that he was an ackward puppy, falling all over himself. He has lived the best life, flying between here and Colorado, riding with Mum in her little red convertible with the top down, (with his sun visor on, of course) eating special buffalo meat and vegetables for his dinner. Now that he is old and arthritic, he gets acupuncture and massages to make him more comfortable. Last time I visited, he rolled over and begged for his usual tummy rub.
The boy still knows how to live the good life!
This book takes me back to when I lived near the dog chapel in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The author’s tribute to his dogs and how they saved his life. Stephen Huneck’s artwork is folk art with a dog’s soul.
