I bought this for use on my kayak, as I am going to be fishing open water on the Chesapeake Bay. I havent had the chance to use it on the water yet, but in going over the manual and testing the unit, I can honestly say that I am confident this is a solid unit and excellent value. It is slightly larger than I imagined after looking at the dimensions, especially with the antenna attached, so I will have to give consideration to where and how to stow it while on the water.
