So far this cold steel slant tip is holding an edge even after some aggressive winter clearing and trail blazing. Recommend touching up the edge lightly with a dollarstore wetstone its adequate and effectively removing the bur .The machine factory grind looks a bit wavy and rough but I anticipated as much and nothing that cannot be corrected easily nor does it affect limbing. Now I get why folks don't like the handle, I have to agree, not the best. The handle it's made of a dense polyplastic material that feels like hardened rubber and is far too slippery, the micro grooves meant for grip are not comfy at all and bite into the palm so gloves are essential. The finish gets scratched up pretty quickly so I plan on repainting every so often. But it does have a nice brushed metal texture and it's taking a lot of abuse. I find polishing with tire shine oil using a sponge extremely effective at diminishing the scratches and bringing the finish look back. I was worried 1055 carbon steel would be too soft but it handles hardwood like a champ. This model comes with a sheath that is worn on the belt, but I attached keyrings to it and now I can wear it on my back. The slant tip is both an intimidating weapon for self defense and a useful backyard bush tool. Thank you to cold steel for offering a budget machete with acceptable steel without breaking the bank.Read full review
