Works great. I did remove the charcoal bag and used a piece of filter material in the bottom of the canister under the electrical housing and put a baggy of purigen on top of the filter material. The water stays nice and clear. I just rinse everything once a week when I do my water change.

I have the internal Cascade filters in almost every tank(besides sponge filters) and absolutely love them. They are powerful, keep the tank clean, and love the fact that you can place whatever filter media you wish in the filter systems. With this filter, I am only using half of the canister as it went in a turtle tank with a low water level. I just placed the top/motor on the half that allowed suction from all angles including the bottom. I poured about half the carbon out of the bag, put the bag on bottom, then put the sponge on top, and the motor on top of that. I don’t usually use carbon but I do in the turtle tank. You can use what ever kind of filter media you like in a media bag or just use sponges. No matter how you want to filter your aquarium, this system works.

Great Filter but no instructions on the control knob on top of the filter - what does this knob do and how to turn it (left or right for ?). Also it claims to be submersable but instructions show other ?? Wish there was more directions.

I have it in my back yard pond the pump so I was skeptical of its filtering abilities, but it puts out a lot of water thru a hose and to a waterfall going back into the pond, and after an hour or 2 i can finally see to the bottom of The pond working great so far,

The PenPlax Cascade 610 is a great filter with adjustable flow, it's just a pain in the butt to clean.
