The Endura is an innovative, effective knife model from Spyderco, designed for durability and ease of use. Spyderco continues its industry tradition of excellence with the fourth generation of this folding knife. It is an everyday-carry knife that is lightweight and strong. It is suitable for general use, but it is also a great choice for hunting or for use as a survival tool. These folders have a single blade that is made of ZDP-189 steel. This is a premium steel that is made by the Japanese company Hitachi. ZDP-189 has a high carbon content that makes it extremely hard and gives it excellent edge retention without a need for frequent sharpening. The blades on these knives are 0.118 inch thick and 3.8 inches long, with 3.46 inches of that being the cutting edge. The overall length of the knife is 8.78 inches, and it is 4.98 inches long when it is closed. It weighs 3.3 ounces. The blade on the fourth-generation Endura is the drop point type. This style is characteristic of hunting and survival knives. It gives you a sharp, controllable point for piercing and a wide belly for slicing, making it ideal for skinning game. The ZDP-189 steel and the flat grind of this plain blade make it extremely sharp right out of the box. The taper of the flat grind from the spine to the edge also reduces the weight of the knife and allows it to have less drag. These knives have blades with a smooth satin finish and Spyderco's proprietary Round Hole to let you open them with one hand. The Round Hole is advantageous because you can use it while wearing gloves or during cold or wet weather. The blade is held open securely with midlocks. The release mechanism has a David Boye dent to keep you from accidentally releasing the lock while you are using the knife. The lock release is ambidextrous for ease of use by both left- and right-handed people. The handles on these knives are made of fiberglass reinforced nylon, or FRN. This material is light, durable, and resistant to wear and impact. The handles on this model come in a British racing-green color for a classic look that blends well with your hunting gear. A patented bi-directional texturing pattern on the surface of the handle gives you a grip that will not slip, and the shallow finger grooves along the bottom give you a sure, firm grasp. Inside the handles are steel skeletonized liners that make the knives strong while adding minimal weight. The entire structure of the handle is held together with screws for long-lasting durability. If you want to carry this knife in your pocket, you can use the hourglass-shaped clip that can be adjusted for use on the left or right side and in the tip-up or tip-down positions. It is also easy to sharpen these knives when necessary to preserve their edge. The Endura 4 knives by Spyderco are folding knives that have a reputation for quality. They are very sharp, solid, ZDP-189 steel folders that can be used for most general cutting tasks as well as outdoor activities.

Hidden workhorse
Despite its "fragile" appearance this full size pocket knife excels in all categories a workhorse is judged on. Second best steel on the market, steel liners wrapped in a fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN) shell. Solid lock and controllable blade deployment. 4 position carry with a solid (but flexible) pocket clip. Easy to sharpen or reprofile (but not needed) blade. One conn: not your office EDC first choice.

This is another great Spyderco product - the Endura 4 in ZDP-189.
I have this same model in S30V and I like it a lot but the ZDP-189 model is scary sharp. It has stayed that way for a long time and I have used it every day. Sharpening may be somewhat more difficult but that is why I ordered diamond stones with my sharpening tool. This model of Spyderco was supposed to have been developed for police, EMT and other service organizations. It fits me perfectly. It is great for slicing and preparing food and anything else you might need to cut. The long slim handle is perfect for my large beefy hands and the whole knife package weighs next to nothing. I forget that I am carrying it sometimes. The price was really nice and service was speedy and efficient. This is a great deal for anyone wanting a light weight EDC knife.

The Spyderco Endura 4 Saber Grind — A top pick for a work knife.
The Endura 4 with saber grind blade is an awesome handful of EDC. The evolutionary 4 version of the iconic Endura was introduced in 2006 and offered for the first time a refined handle shape, FRN scales with Bi-Directional texturing and steel liners, a larger 13mm Spydie Hole and the four-position pocket clip -- essentially the knife that is still produce today almost two decades later. This model continues to be a top pick for anyone wanting a rugged, quality built workhorse of a knife at a reasonable price.
