I'm not sure whether this is a defect or a design flaw, but the one I bought, allegedly brand new, had no earthing protection and no simulated sine wave output. This means that if you're using a grounded appliance, you can get a shock, or you could wind up with equipment damage, but also because the output of the AC outlet isn't really a sine at all, it's a square wave, which is really pulsed DC, and will cause performance issues with a lot of appliances. This model is cheap, but that's because they didn't put any quality into it, and it's still a waste of money.
