  • Birchwood Casey Super blue

The Super blue works well. I had a couple of scratches on a barrel. I removed all the old bluing to get a even bluing. I used alcohol & sand paper to clean the barrel down to bear metal. Followed the steps & repeated the bluing process 5 times until it matched the gun. buff to shine. wiped the barrel down w/ gun oil & it looked brand new. I used "Super blue" because it claims to be darker than Perma blue. It's been 3 mths & the bluing is holding up. Time will tell. It's NOT magic in a bottle ($10). So I doubt it will hold up as well as hot bluing or the OEM bluing. But for $10 & a little time, I'm very satisfied with the results.

  • Shoe polish for guns

Unless you keep your guns in a velvet box and never touch or move them, the bluing will wear through in places: where parts rub against each other; where the holster or scabbard contacts the gun; where one's hand rubs the surface of the gun. A collector gun with a nearly perfect original finish is only so when it hasn't been used much. The reason I like this product is that it is a stronger and faster working solution than most other liquid blues that I have tried. It takes the gun from looking well used to looking almost like new, and with about as much effort as polishing a shoe. There is no need to remove the old finish and entirely replace it, although a light touch with fine steel wool can help on occasion. Sure, I like a nice factory blue job, with its somewhat tougher oxide coating, or a parkerized finish, or whatever. However, if one takes a gun completely apart and puts it in a bath, and then reassembles it so that it is as beautiful as the day it was made, that would be a good time to put it in a velvet box and just leave it there. If you begin to use it again, guess what will happen? So, this is my shoe polish for guns. You wear shoes, they get scuffed, and then you make them pretty again. Rubbing on this Super Blue is a step I take, as needed, when I clean my guns. Really no fuss, no muss, and it quickly re-covers shiny, steely wear spots.

  • Easy to use, works great.

I purchased this to re-blue the barrel and of a SAR-1 AKM. It had gotten scraped and the shiny chrome alloy was showing in several spots. The Super Blue worked perfectly - I used a Q-Tip to apply it, washed it off after a few seconds when the color seemed to match, and now you can't tell it was ever dinged up. I then decided to try it on some of the sight and gas block edges and areas that were looking a bit thin and worn, with same results. Now everything matches with the original finish and looks great. It's really easy to use, and there is no need to heat the metal or anything like that. Just clean the surface really well with a de-greaser (denatured alcohol), apply it, wait a few seconds, and rinse in water... repeating as necessary for a darker finish. Since then I've also used it for a bunch of other things in places where I've had bad luck with galvanized not holding up for long - some screws under the sink, the brackets for an outdoor water fountain, and my mailbox. I'm hoping it will last longer, but even if not, it's kinda fun to do.

  • GREAT PRODUCT

I have never did a reblueing on a firearm before and this product as far as I am concerned worked great. I rerblued my wife's 410 shotgun. I sanded it down to bare metal and the design on the metal part was well worn could hardly see it. It took three coats to get the desired look I wanted and the design on metal came back to life and is very easy to see now. I highly recommend this product and we will have to wait and see how long it lasts.

  • Works

I was hesitant of a full gun gun Blue, but it came out good and I really am happy with the results. I had used the standard BW Casey gun blue in the past and it would be spotty and was hard to work with. But this Super Blue is the opposite. Very easy and dark blue.

  • Good old Blue!

Birchwood Casey has been making this stuff for years and I have used it for 50 years. It is fantastic. Follow directions on the bottle and you will get a factory long lasting blue finish. One thing that is extremely important. Do not dip and the-dip your brush into the bottle. It contaminates the bottle. Pour just what you need into a small plastic container and discard what you don't use. Do not pour it back in bottle. This is great stuff!

  • Good affordable product with great results

This Super Blue gets plenty dark with one application and is easy to use. Two coats will black out whatever you're using it on. I definitely recommend this product and it goes a long way if you're careful about not wasting any.

  • What can I say ?? It's gun blue. Duhhhhh.

Just make sure you really clean the surface really well. I used lens cleaning wipes. I applied 2 coats. Let dry between coats. Polish with a soft cloth. Looks great....

  • Great product.

I have been using Birchwood Casey Super Blue Liquid for over 10 years. Yes, 1 bottle has lasted me that long. As long as your careful and not contaminate it, and always use a clean Q-tip when you dip in the bottle, it will last a long time. Works great on small rebluing jobs. Just use some CLP on a piece of 0000 steel wool after you've applied the bluing for a smooth matching blue finish...

  • great stuff, being that it is cold bluing..

Very impressed with this cold bluing,.. If you do a complete stripping off of the old finish, it comes out fantastic.. I'm not so sure about trying to do "spot touch-ups"... The finished color is a gray, charcoal.. and doesn't match the dark blue, purple color of hot bluing.. But on it's own.. looks great...
