This product is good for the HO Superliner taillights, and it fits into the snap in section underneath the car. But be WARNED, this item, if you do not put it in correctly (like if it is upside down where the electrical contacts are), it will instantly short circuit and begin to smoke and possibly catch fire. You have to follow the instructions exactly regarding which side is contacting the electrical pickups versus the side that contacts the lighting kit, otherwise it will burn up and be unusable. (Learned by mistake on more than 5 of these things). However, a neat side note is if you want to have a decoder for the lighting kit for the lounge car too, this decoder works, but you would have to cut the LED from the lounge car light kit and transplant it to the marker light board. The lounge car lighting kit DOES NOT take this decoder, and will also fry the decoder if you try to use it, but if you transplant the bulbs, then it will work perfectly. This is still far better than the Walthers cars where you cannot really control the lighting function when track power is applied. Read full review

The decoder is not expensive and is easy to install. There is a way to change function key to switch on/off the lights (from default F0 to F3 or F5), but it would be better to have more options: - change function key number to any number - switch off the lights permanently in case of middle position in consist - implement smooth lighting up and shutting down the lights

The instructions that come with the decoder leave a bit to be desired. But there are instructions on the WEB that help. As long as you orientate the decoder properly, it is an easy install and works well.

I've used these in a number of Kato Bi-Level commuter cars in n-scale. It's custom made to fit these cars and if you want the lights to work properly with dcc, you need these. A little tricky to install, especially with no English language instructions. After you figure out how to install them, they program easily and keep working reliably.
