What makes this game sooooo entertaining/fun/interesting is that there is a planning phase before moving where you have these dials with the maneuvers for each ship, and each maneuver it can do. You secretly put what movement your ship is going to do by turning the dial to the right mark, and then you put it face down by the ship and then you eventually show your maneuver. This is what really gives this game a spin, also, the rulebook is not very thick which means you can learn the rules and start playing within about 30 minutes of receiving it. The models are also epic and very good looking. I will definitely be getting into this game more! Pre-painted miniatures, addictive squad building, heart-pounding gameplay, it's really easy to introduce someone to this game and get them hooked - which is good, because I've collected plenty and need people to play! You could consider this core set the "second edition" of the game: the designers have a better hold on damage rules, upgrades, and stable gameplay. But they're entirely compatible with older sets, and vice versa. Sets are spendy, but always worth every penny you invest in them. I haven't regretted a single purchase.
