My 33478a is at least 20 years old and works perfectly. Superb accuracy. There's no bells and whistles on these- you can measure AC/DC voltage and current, and resistance, and that's it. No math functions, memory, continuity, etc. But you can measure anything from 300V down to 100 -nano- Volts, with the autoranging settling in to the correct reading in under a second. I have handheld meters with lots more features, but nothing that matches the speed and ease of use of this precision instrument.

Beautiful meter. Typical Hewlette Packard quality. May not be 'State of the Art' but this kind of measuring equipment is ageless. Just replace the calibration backup battery every 20 years or so and your good to go! Highly recommend for the technician's bench.

1st off check the battery, OK, tested some voltages, again, OK. Then I checked all my test leads to see if any would fit in the front pkanel jacks- no go. not a one of my test lead sets will seat in the jacks. Now I am searching for leads that will work. This is info that should be mentioned, with possibly a source listed for leads. I will alter this review when I have found leads, with a source.

Older design DVM but still a solid bench-top performer. Arrived working correctly and within calibration. Excellent 4 wire ohms performance, good thermal stability. Newer color LED meters look prettier but the HP3478A is more likely to be working years from now.

The 3478A shows the same value(s) as my Fluke 8842A and HP 3455A. It has turned into my go-to DMM. Highly recommended for the bench. The LCD display isn't "LED" bright but is clearly visible. These 3478A's are a terrific bargain if you find a clean one.
