I put it in a standard interior door about an inch and a half thick and it works fine. The only downside is that there is no spacer to fill the gap between the front of the cat door and the back. So if the door is hollow you can see right into it. I used white tape to cover that space before installing the door and that works ok to mask the gap. Good quality otherwise and the magnetic closer is a great feature.

This is a low cost pet door for small animals, under 12 lbs. I would think. It works well and is weather proof. Certainly worth the price. Be advised that the larger pets that will fit through this door will likely be able to defeat the locking mechanism if they are determined.

This door can be used without a complicated locking mechanism. Perfect for INDOOR applications, which is what I needed. It contains an internal magnet, that holds the door in the closed position, but opens easily when your pet wants to get thru, then returns to closed position automatically. I don't understand how these other manufacturers of cat doors can charge can charge $15-$50 for a simple flap in a door. Is this cat door one side comes with screws to attach it, the other side comes with sticky foam tabs. I found a much neater installation can be done by eliminating the foam tabs and using a few beads of hot glue. You could eliminate the screws on the other side using this much simpler method. My cat really seems to enjoy the door.

Our two 10-pound cats now have their litter box in a lower cabinet in our kitchen cabinets that was dead space previously. We cut the hole from the provided template which was extremely accurate. By leaving the hole access without the door for a week, they acclimated to the location. Hung the door frame up. There is a plastic piece to "lock" the door that was easy for us to remove to make sure that they didn't accidentally lock themselves in or out. The box for the door was broken apart, but that was just cosmetic and had no effect on the pieces needed. If you are putting it on a thicker door, you will see the space between the front and back sides. Almost purchased from local hardware store, but ebay saved me quite a bit. Definitely need a drill and jig saw for this job. Seller shipped the door quickly and packaged it well. Double check the size if you have a larger cat as you'll probably need a bit larger door.
