This camera combines a superb 50MP medium format sensor with Hasselblad's famous lens quality. In a beautifully finished, lightweight body it is much easier to carry than any other medium format camera. The sensor is great, with very wide exposure latitude and good low light behaviour. Surprisingly, the camera software is also good and Hasselblad has continued issuing updates which further improve performance and add features. Autofocus is also surprisingly fast and accurate: critical given the great resolution of the sensor and lenses. Medium format sensors provide a unique feel to the images when you compare to 35mm full frame, let alone smaller sensors. The focal plane feels narrower and, with much larger pixels compared to a 35mm sensor with similar resolution, there is a smoothness to tones and colours which is very attractive. The main disadvantage I can see is the price: with a full setup with a couple of lenses setting you back over £10k new. The other is battery life where you really need to carry a spare battery. If I'm using the rear screen continuously on high brightness, the battery can run out in 250 shots: impressive given it is a fairly high capacity battery. Still, recent firmware upgrades seem to have improved behaviour and you can certainly get a lot more shots if you use the viewfinder. Read full review
