This garage door opener gear is usually replaced because the solid bearing (no rollers or balls) at the top wears out and the chain may come off the sprocket. Its easy to replace and usually only the shaft assembly needs to be replaced. Don't have to remove the opener just a step ladder. The chain replacement and adjustment are the hardest part to get them back in the correct place.
