These things aren't cheap. This was a decent price compared to what GE wants for it. There are no generics that I can find. That said, they really do work to improve the water taste. I moved from the country where we had spring fed aquifers to a suburban area where the water is taken from the river. What a shock. The water smells and tastes like chlorinated fish....leaves red deposits on the shower and toilet. Filtered water from the refrigerator is a delight and is convenient. i suppose a Bria filter would work as well.

Bought the knockoffs and they worked fine for awhile. Then it would sound like there was air in the line. The fridge would make a hammering sound when you got water. After replacing with this filter it went away. So I suppose you get what you pay for. These were at a very good price and work as they should.

Bought this GE OEM filter which exactly matched to the filter that came with the refrigerator. I considered buying a half priced copy filter but some GE marketing genius posted on the side of the filter box a chart of all the items that the half price copy filters will not clean like puss and germs and fecal matter. That was enough playing psychology tricks with my brain to convince me to pay the price for an authentic GE filter!
