I have a older model. It resets the time with loss of power. Has nothing to do with the 9 volt battery. That just keeps it on when you have a loss of power. I have no USB port. That will be a plus. Its worked year after year. I brought it at K-Marts when there was no smart phones. It’s been all over Europe with me. Still working fine today. Anyone who complains about the sound getting louder. GET up ! That’s what it’s intended for. That you DON’T oversleep. Starts out lightly and gets louder due to your lazy backside. I give this new alarm clock a tripple plus. Note: Like all devices. Two deficiencies. Both having to do with volume. One is the alarm. When it goes off the volume goes up. So if you want to lay in bed and quietly listen to the radio for a few minutes, you have to keep turning the volume down as it keeps trying to go up. Annoying. The second, is that the lowest volume setting is pretty loud. It's digital so the volume has preset levels rather than a control knob. I ended up taping thin cardboard over the speaker hole to muffle it...
