Requires self assembly, so some basic electronic and soldering skills are needed. Mine came in a sealed plastic bag with all the components (even one extra, I guess they gave me an option to use either a fixed capacitor or an adjustable one), but without a manual and the one linked from the item description did not provide assembly instructions, only the schematic (attached) and user instructions. But the board is labelled very well and it is clear what goes where. It worked on the first try. The measured frequency was off by about 65 kHz, too much to adjust with the tuning capacitor. I was ready to live with it, after all, what can you expect from a hobbyist gadget under a fiver. But then I tried to (shock, horror!) RTFM and found it has a feature to add/subtract an offset to the measured frequency (useful for tuning superhets etc). I zeroed the offset and hey presto - the value is now accurate to the last digit. You can use the device in two modes without any modification. With a crystal plugged in, it measures its frequency. Without a crystal, you can attach an external signal source and measure the frequency of that. Attached pictures show the device with: - no signal - an external 12 MHz signal source - a 4.4336 MHz crystal (PAL colour carrier) - an 18 MHz crystal (highest I had in the drawer) - the schematic diagram for reference (taken from the manual, link was in the item description)Read full review

This frequency counter works well for me. I use it for measuring frequencies in the 30 kHz to 150 kHz range. Note that it does require a 5 volt square wave input. Others have said that it is somewhat limited when used as a crystal tester.

Tests crystals okay but doesn't read frequency No assembly manual or instructions included. No technical support.

I purchased 3 of these none work. Even downloaded schematic and Notations on this unit. It fails miserably
