This was one of the first DENON turntable made for consumer use. Previously, all DENON turntables were made for broadcast use. The motors were more durable, the bearings were more durable, but they lacked all consumer product features. The DP-5x and 6x series had automatic arm lifts and self-adjusting tonearms. They were more consumer friendly than their DP-3000, DP-5000, DP-6000 broadcast turntables. You actually had to know how to set a turntable from scratch to use one of them. You paid for the convenience of not having to set the turntable. It came pre-assembled and ready to go.
