I've not always had good luck with the "off brand" refrigerator filters, but the name brand price is really high right now. The refrigerator itself is a Kenmore (made by Whirlpool), so I decided to give this Kenmore filter a try. It looks identical to the Whirlpool filter 1 and installed without a problem--no leaks, no rattling noise, no off taste. So far so good at 1/3 of the price. If it performs and lasts without issues, then it's a winner.

The Kenmore replacement water filter I bought, when installed, made a sputtering noise when dispensing water and restricted the flow of water. Thinking it was a faulty filter I replaced it with the second Kenmore replacement filter and it did the same thing. Even after running copious amounts of water through the filter to purge it of any air both filters made noises and restricted the water pressure. I ended up digging the old/disposed filter out of the trash can and reinstalling it until I can secure another brand of replacement water filter. Not HAPPY!
