I had some difficulties with the plate joiner I had and this has been a wonderful replacement. Porter Cable builds excellent power and woodworking tools and the plate joiner some years ago was a godsend when I was building baby furniture for a number of my grandchildren. Two cribs, a black-walnut cradle, a highchair that unfolded down to a play station, a combination bed that started as a crib, changed to a toddler bed, and ultimately to a twin bed that one of my granddaughters uses to this day out of liptus wood, a Honduran substitute for mahogany at half the cost some 15 years ago. Between my Porter Cable plate joiner and my Fesstool Domino 500, I have many options for putting pieces of wood together. Many thanks to seller for an excellent buy with documentation. Kudos!

Easy to use. Porter Cable has made very good tools for decades. I have their planer, router, belt sander and palm sander which are all excellent. The features on the PC 557 Biscuit joiner exceed most others. Woodcraft has a video comparing several models. I recommend watching and reading reviews before making a choice. Many folks complain that the dust collection system, (clip-on bag), size of the dust port are inadequate. I agree, this is a common issue with many but not all Biscuit Joiners. It's a great tool for the money and if you think you'll be using it for years you can't go wrong.

The fence is the most important part of a plate joiner. This tool will allow you to reference the inside or outside surface of your work. It allows you to quickly adjust for different sized biscuits, and also has a fine tuning adjustment for dialing in a precise depth of cut. The fence rides on 2 steel rails, so when you raise or lower it the fence can’t cant. I feel it is the best joiner out there. Paul P
