When the 1st Generation Acer Aspire R7 debuted as a tie in with the Star Trek Into Darkness movie, I was intrigued by the idea of a notebook/tablet hybrid, which I had been seeking. I ordered the Acer R7 571 and found it to be a serviceable machine, albeit with flaws. Right away, I will say this sucker is heavy, and toting it can be a trail if you are going far and wide. Fortunately, I am not. Wifi reception is not the best if you are at a distance from a signal, but adding a USB adapter solved that issue. Batter life sucks. You need to be near an outlet if you want more than 4 hours, tops. So what is good about the machine is not only the fact that it had so many different screen angles, is the fact I can do everything on it. It is a great desktop replacement when you need power, but don't have a lot of space. I also like the trackpad has been put out of the way, and can be covered by the screen and not seen again. Not a problem since it is touch and I prefer a regular mouse anyway. That being said, when the 572 model came out with an active stylus, I was in heaven and ordered it. Having the ability to write on screen is terrific for editing documents when in tablet mode. All in all, I love mine. I am now on my 3rd R7, which I ordered because the model is discontinued now and hard to find. I can't imagine being without one.Read full review
