Ella Fitzgerald consistently credited Connie Boswell as her main influence and Irving Berlin singled her out as his favorite interpreter of his songs. The beautiful and talented Boswells sold out stage shows from New York to London and the number of records they sold is estimated to be over 75 million. Required Reading for Boswell Sisters Fans!
If you're a fan of the Boswell Sisters, this is a must buy. While it doesn't do any musical analysis, it does give great background on the milieu from which they sprang. Interspersed with many photos from the family archive, it tells the inside story of how the group struggled, succeeded and then came apart. Written by the granddaughter of one of the sisters, it reveals a great deal about this never equaled vocal group.
