Fully charged, it kept my BMOC4k running passively for just over 5 hours. That augers well for actual recording time, when comparing with the 35-40 min. of the provided internal battery, which keeps the camera passively powered for just over 60 min. I doubt the more expensive BM recommended external grip is as good bang for buck. The only remaining unknown is the working life of both units.

The OEM Cannon batteries are rated at 760 mAh (mill-amp-hours). This number indicates how long the battery can run under load. This Insten battery is rated at 1400 mAh which implies it has double the capacity of the OEM batery. Not EVEN close. Two new Insten batteries fully charged before use both provided less than 15 pictures. My 10 year old Cannon battery does 30+ photos. Based on this real world test these Insten batteries are at best 350mAh. At $4 each it's about on par relative to mAh per $ comparable to other batteries. The question is do you want to constantly charge a battery, particularly is you are not near and A/C outlet? This is definately the NOT the battery you want if you are on a whale watching cruise hoping to catch the sight of a lifetime.

Very easy to install, you remove the old battery and insert the new one. I always keep the battery in charge for 24 hours before using it. This is not an original part from the Manufacturer, that may actually be a what is good about it. The part is an improved version that holds a larger charge for a longer time. The original battery from Panasonic did run out of charge quickly if it was not used much. There was a review that said this part did not fit well, while this was a concern, it does not appear to be the case as it does fit perfectly in the Camera, and little snug in the charger ( which is a good thing as it does NOT fall out ) I highly recommend this battery. Do not let the price be your deciding factor, the power is more important and in many cases is only a little bit more expensive.
