Up for sale is an original rare open box Pioneer SX-780 Audiophile AM/FM stereo receiver with owner's manual. The Pioneer SX-780 was one of Pioneer's top of the line stereo receivers in the 1970's. This one was just taken out of the box for pictures and in perfect working condition.
Pioneer SX-1280 185 Watts Per Channel & 63 lbs. Of Power!
I bought my SX-1280 a year or two ago for $1,200 plus shipping. Before the tax grabbers came knocking. The sound quality is outstanding. It's a beautifully designed stereo. Great features. Tons of vintage power. If you want high end sounding music you need to look for powerful vintage receivers. I added a power boosting FM antenna and now my SX-1280 pulls in stations from 90 miles away with a 3 to 4 on my signal strength meter. CD's and cassette tapes come alive on the stereo. I`m very pleased with my purchase.
This thing sounds great for a 40 year old receiver. If you can find one in good shape it's a pretty good value I think. Mine needed some cleaning, dusting and a splash of deoxit to get rid of the scratchiness. This is a great way to get back into vinyl records or grab a Bluetooth receiver for cheap and you can play whatever you like. I added some inexpensive cool blue LEDS to twice the old lights.
Takes me back a few years... Vintage...Great Receiver for the office
This receiver takes me back to my younger years... I'd buy again. It has a classic look and awesome sound. We use it in the office everyday...
I like the fact that it's made in Japan, not digital and stays on the station if the power goes off.
Compared to many other recievers, the sound on the 780 is rich, warm, and inviting.
Nice Receiver, unfortunate it was damaged some in shipping.
Good: Nice receiver, not too much power, clean sound.
Bad: Arrived damaged, didn't want to go thru the hassle of looking for another, bidding and winning. Extra cost spent to fix AM antenna, VU meters, clean up.
Not sure how to evaluate before buying, but a comment that it "works" is too vague. I had to send the unit back because of poor sound quality and scratching sounds when adjusting volume knob.
