Simple interface, which is what you need when you are in a tough spot. Could be lighter. Seems to be robust enough to handle rough conditions, such as snow and rain. I have not yet put it to the test there. It did fail to send one check-in message when I used it on a hike. Not sure if it was operator error or if satellite coverage was missing. The second check-in worked fine from essentially the same location.

I've never submerged, but have been in heavy rain. Orange color help spotting if you set down to transmit and I recommend clipping your car keys to it if you do set it down so you don't drive off without it!
