This genuine Dell keyboard is nice. Dell used a higher quality keyboard in their Latitude business series laptops such as the e6420, and I have found them to have a better feel when typing than most any other laptop. I wanted a backlit keyboard for my e6420. Mine had the non-backlit keyboard instead of the optional backlit keyboard. My only complaint is that this backlit keyboard was shipped without the ribbon cable. I have ordered a lot of replacement laptop keyboards over the years since I do laptop repairs as a hobby, but I have never seen one shipped without the ribbon cable. For that reason, I deducted one star from my review.

If you need a keyboard for an older laptop it is easy to replace and it is worth the money and time spent. But beware. Unlike any replacement keyboards, the way this one hooks to the motherboard is different than most. This does not have a conventional ribbon cable and therefore it is very critical to get it fastened to the keyboard itself as well as the motherboard. And the is a huge problem if you need the skinny cable that runs from between the two of them. If you assume that they cable will be coming with the keyboard like all others do, don't. Look closely before you do. This keyboard did not come with a cable and I had to buy one from China for almost the price of the keyboard itself. Once I got it if was fine.
