This is a basic Universal Lab Low Voltage PS. If one knows his needs and doesn't require bells & whistles, it is sufficient. It is well build with quality components. The design is very classic, similar units have been designed and manufactured by Lambda USA 30 years ago... To optimize size & weight, the GW-3020 uses a 24VDC internal cooling fan. Seems that is no provision for controlling the internal PS temp by it's fan speed, neither to be switched On-Off by a thermal switch, therefore it is noisy (my case). This statement is based on the unit i have purchased as used, no factory spec for fan either. Controlling the fan is not sufficient, there has to be an alarm displayed also if the fan doesn't function correctly. For all these considerations & cost, Instek probably didn't provide such function in this model. My preference for an electrical tool, specially if I purchase it as used is simplicity (= quality)!Read full review

The 5V supply didn't work and I could not find any service manual or schematic for this power supply. I ended up building my own 5V supply and bypassed their circuit.

Front panel pushbuttons make it easy to put the variable supplies either in series or parallel. However, the technology is old so the supply is really too large for the available space on my workbench & too heavy to easily move around. The front panel meters make it easy to adjust the output settings.

It's an adjustable power supply with adjustable current limit with multiple outputs. It supplies power and limits current. It is a quality unit, non digital, basic meters, non programmable. It doesn't sing or dance. It won't fly. Or teleport. It's an adjustable power supply.

Nice unit. I was in need of a power supply(40-60$), but didn't want an expensive unit, nor a super cheap one. I was concerned about the analog gauges, but figured I would replace them if necessary. Digital is the norm. It is old, and has the bulky, heftiness of an older supply. Which was fine by me. I can set the volts within 100mV or less, by the analog gauge. Similar with the current. You can also still download the owners manual. The power supply is intuitive. I have shorted out the leads by accident many times and it seems to have decent protection, at least through my accidental abuse. It also will go to 4 amps/ 30 volts, in parallel mode. In all if you are looking for a good power supply, I highly recommend it.Joe

This is an excellent power supply. The two 32V variable supplies can be used independently, placed in series, or in parallel. There is a separate meter for current and voltage for each supply. The voltages and currents seem to be right on but probably not precise as the meters are analog. There is no meter for the fixed 5V supply but its output measures 5.003V - close enough for all practical purposes. I am quite pleased with this purchase.
