Since space is limited on my boat, I was looking for a compact radio with powerful features and great sound. I found it with the PMX-2! The manual does lack some user information, but with some experimentation I was able to figure out how to select folders, shuffle, and several other features not explained well (or at all) in the manual.
One thing that was NOT listed anywhere that I saw, was that the display is black and white and turns the blue color you see in some pictures only when the illumination wire has power to it. I thought about keeping the illumination wire powered, however the brighter black and white display IS easier to see in full daylight. I guess Rockford has things figured out.
The integration with the iPhone is VERY powerful! The bluetooth has a range of well over 50 feet for my installation. This provides a wireless remote when sitting onshore and listening to the boat Pandora. With Pandora playing, I can change songs, volume up and down and any other pandora feature from the iPhone. The only thing missing, that I hope will be in a firmware upgrade, would be a total remote control of the radio from your phone. Changing radio stations, USB songs etc. would make this complete for most boat owners and probably wouldn't be bad in an ATV install hanging around camp either.
I can't say too much about the internal amplifiers since I am using separate amps. I CAN say that the bass boost controls being on the PMX-2 works well and I no longer need a separate bass knob mounted.
The 3" mounting hole make it a lot easier to mount than cutting a rectangle in the fiberglass or dash panel and the wiring is VERY straight forward.
I still question if I should have spent the extra $50 to get the PMX-3 with Sirius Radio, but so far haven't missed it.Read full review
Always been a Rockford fan. Bought 3 of them to put in my RZR & my friends buggies. I'm sure I will be buying more. Built in amp sounds great on speakers. All the extra features are exactly what is needed. Highly Recommend!
