Having waited till the 4k projector market matured and prices came down, I was very impressed with the image quality of this unit. Fan noise is minimal. Setup was easy. I recommend flipping the image if you're mounting from the ceiling before doing it. You can't go wrong with this, especially at this price point.

hree years ago I bought an Optoma UHD60 projector. It was set up in my living room Man Cave switch site. The projector and klipsch surround system worked well for me. Then I saw some flickering on the white areas of movies. Upon research, it seems the spinning wheel of the dlp projector has flaws. I looked at Sony, through the Youtube “Rafcave” videos to see why Raf progressed onto the Sony 285es projector. I then purchased a Sony 365es projector that turned out to be an old lemon. The picture was great but the blue sxrd panel was kaput. After a struggle I was able to return the projector and buy a used Sony 285es projector with reasonable lamp hours. The Sony has half the lumens as the Optoma, but the lesser light brings out the colors more and the sharpness of Sony is far better. For my blackened room, the experience is more theater than TV. Also, the picture is equal to 4K LED/LCD tvs but not quite my LG OLED quality. No projector does that right now. However, the 3D is much better than my LG’s 3D because it is 4 times the size. One problem is, I experienced a slight headache with the active glasses after viewing one movie vs none with LG smaller tv and their passive glasses. My recommendation is if you can get a used Sony projector with proof of purchase (including Best Buy) within the last three years, it is transferable for repair if needed. It is easy to replace a lamp, but even Sony does not replace their sxrd chips, they replace the whole panel instead. A serial number does not qualify for repair. If what you get lasts for three years after POP plus, it is well worth the investment! It does qualify for Home Theater.Read full review
