This is a great hard drive. Inexpensive for the amount of storage. Fast RPM's and a large buffer size. I have 2 of these same toshiba drives already in my desktop, one running linux mint 17 and the other still running windows xp. This last one I bought to hold all my old 8mm movies that I had digitized and transfered as both .mov files and each frame as it's own .png file. Very reliable.
Works great as a external hard drive substitute. Buying this is far cheaper than buying an external hard drive. I was able to format this hard drive and use it as a data back up.

The drive was clean and looked brand new. I simply swapped it into an old Win 7 computer, booted from a recovery disk, and installed the previous Win 7 image that was on a USB hard drive. Ridiculously easy, no problems or issues, and the new drive is working fast and reliably. This was a perfect and inexpensive way to resurrect a fairly nice HP desktop that had a small 160G drive. Plenty of room now.

After my original Western Digital hard drive died I was in need of an affordable and reliable replacement. This Toshiba DT01ACA050 500GB hard drive was the same size and costs about the same money.
