I do a lot of outdoor nature work. While I own, and use, a full sized DSLR I've found the Olympus Tough series a good camera for carrying around outdoors. My only concern was that the 4x zoom wasn't always "long" enough for some subjects. The TCON-T01 adds .7X to the focal length without degrading the image quality. It is very compact, light weight, and (like the camera) totally waterproof down to 50 feet. I've dragged mine, with the camera, through a muddy swamp, kept it out in the rain, and used it in blowing beach sand. It works just fine and is great for those subjects that you just can't, or don't want to, get closer to. Try shooting a close up of a large gator or venomous snake while you're in waist deep water to see the advantages of this lens. YMMV, but it works great for me.

I thought I would be able to use the lens to capture more light even at 2x camera optical zoom, but due to vignetting the lens really only works when the camera zoom is close to its 4x maximum. So for me this lens only offers an advantage for wildlife photography at maximum zoom in still fairly bright conditions; doesn't really extend my capability that much. But it's well-made and fun to have I guess.

‘Does give higher magnification and worlds fine, only at full zoom on the camera. It’s a very nice compact lens, but still must be carried separately which is no very satisfactory. But it does what it’s supposed to do and is kind of cute.
