Through no fault of this program, I could not uninstall the Windows 10 on my PC and install this version of Windows. The computer is "locked down" as you might put it by Windows 10. My nephew came over to assist and he has a computer science degree and we could not get it to install. One of the worst things I ever did was upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10. It has wiped out a lot of my legacy strategy games which cannot run on Windows 10. A lot of my entertainment/fun/enjoyment with the computer is gone. Thank you Windows 10 (NOT).

It installed ok but then I noticed it is a older version of windows 8.1, more like 8 with less functions. I did updates and it broke the computer; cannot enter 'change PC settings', cannot open many windows, tools. After 258 updates downloaded then computer quickly says all installed and never ask to restart. MANY things abnormal with computer and the way it updates when compared to true windows 8.1. I had to remove this 8.1 and put my old windows 8 back in the computer and then do updates from Microsoft to get 8.1. I bought the 8.1 DVD so I don't have to go through all this hassle when doing monthly recovery of computer. But the DVD does not give a full 8.1 with all the recent updates before Microsoft went to windows 10. Updates with the 8.1 dvd very strange, breaks parts of computer, almost like is not from Microsoft, not true Microsoft product. Made my anti-virus software stop working. When first install 8.1 by dvd bought here on bay; it said was a 8.1 build. After first few updates; that symbol was gone from screen and I thought maybe this will work; but that's when all the broken functions occurred as more updates were done. Maybe I need to update about 10 times? Afraid to use the DVD again. Read full review

AS TERRIFIC AS THIS VERSION OF WINDOW PERFORMS, THERE IS A BIG LEARNING CURVE SINCE THE CUSTOMARY "OPEN" COLORED SQUARE ON THE LOWER CORNER IS MISSING. BUT PAY ATTENTION - IF YOUR SYSTEM RUNS WINDOWS VISTA OR EARLIER THIS WILL NOT WORK. IT GUIDES YOU THROUGH REMOVAL OF WINDOWS VISTA AND EARLIER BUT IT IS A CLEAN WIPE OF THE ENTIRE COMPUTER AND YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING IN VISTA OR WINDOWS 7 AND BELOW. GREAT PRODUCT WITH PRECAUTIONARY PREPARATION FIRST TO SAVE ANYTHING ON THE OLD OPERATING SYSTEM.. REMEMBER A CLEAN WIPE OF HARD DRIVE MEANS YOU LOSE ALL
I have several Windows 10 desktops, all work well. I put 8.1 in a older Compaq laptop A100 along with a WD 120 GB SSD, and am very impressed with the speed, performance, and graphics of the system. There are basically two must haves in today's computers, solid state drives, and Windows 10 or 8.1. With enough memory, a good running older laptop or desktop simply works well. So you can spend 500 dollars for a new one, or a fraction of that for an older one, pop in a 50 dollar ssd, and, 50 more dollars for 8.1 or 10 and your in business for a couple of years.

First off, my ebay buying experience was excellent. I was an XP user and was deciding between Windows 7 and Windows 8. I was reluctant to move to Windows 8 based on all the negative reviews. However, the negative voice in our world always seems to be the strongest so that along with the fact that the folks at the electronic stores could not give me any specific foundational reason other than "Don't do it...go with 7" led me to go ahead with 8. Am I disappointed, yes. Would I recommend it...possibly. Would I buy for my personal use again...no. If you primarily use your computer to check email, browse the web and play some games. It is perfectly fine and I might even recommend it. If you like to do things your own way, expect to be able to navigate menus and find programs and various settings easily and intuitively, it is a royal pain. I find myself constantly doing web searches in order to do the simplest of things. Ex/ 2-click access to the last file I had open. I gave it 3 stars, because for a lot of users I think Windows 8 is probably fine. Me personally, it is not. If it were not for rumors about a Windows 9 lurking, I would be selling this and looking for Windows 7.Read full review
