This radio is great because it does classic analog Hf VHF UHF but it also does Dstar digital as well as connecting directly to PC or Mac for other digital modes, such as FT8, JT9, etc. This radio even decodes RTTY in stand-alone mode with no external computer. For the time being, this is the rig to get if you want to play with digital modes in my opinion.

I-com 7100 is a perfect radio for over all ham use. It does everything and more a person expects. The only draw back to it is the Manual is very hard to follow. Some elements of the radio are hard to learn how to use. I used the YouTube videos to learn how to operate it.
