I knew before I bought this drive that it was reported to be on the loud side. It's true, during reads/writes, it scratches away like a mini DJ inside my computer. I use it as a 2nd storage drive in my set up, so it's not always in use. I would likely not advise using this for your main OS drive if you care at all about silence. Otherwise it's fast, cheap, and reliable (so far).

WoW - amazed that this vintage series HD several generations old sata II with only 32mb cache is selling for such high prices of 48.00 shipped... we had about a 95 percent failure rate with these and also the newer series (mainly from the tailand floods a few years back) and all of the WD-Hatachi warranty replacments failed - every single one , none over 400 hours of run time and WD would not replace them again, makes you wonder how WD could boast about it's stock and a stellar quarter (go do the research) when all of us suckers had to rebuy drives...hmmmmm
