I looked at many Emergency Alerting Systems available to Seniors with special needs. I reviewed countless companies offering all kinds of plans with all kinds of fees and costs and in all price ranges. I realized that my dad didn't need all the perks that come with those plans because not everything with him is an emergency. I looked into self use products and there were many of them as well. However, I liked this the best because of the 2 way speaker built into the pendant. With other systems, the person would have to be very close to the docking station in order for family or emergency people to hear him if he was in trouble. If he had fallen in an other room in the house, he wouldn't be able to hear the person's voice on the docking station, nor would they be able to hear him. The pendant with this system is like having a mini-cell phone around his neck with automatic speed dial. if he has an emergency, he just presses the blue button. it automatically dials the first person you've programmed to receive the call. if no answer, it moves to the next call, and the next if necessary. If the 3 people you have designated and programmed into the system for assistance do not answer, the system will default and call 911 automatically. But no matter who he is able to contact, he can speak clearly into the pendant and also hear the person on the other end very clearly. The product works very well and can customized to your needs. All without monthly fees! The rechargeable batteries in the used unit were not good but that was understandable. I would recommend this unit to anyone who has a handicapped, sick, or elderly person they want to keep in contact with during an emergency. The small pendant can also answer, talk, and hangup regular phone calls as well. Calls can be automatically made to as many as 5 people with or without 911. It is what I expected. works well around the house and my fairly sizable property, seems to be made with high quality. It did arrive with one defective lithium ion battery but it was the spare and i can get along fine without it. I recommend finding some kid under 12 to program it for you. one word of caution, if you press the button without having and friends/family programmed into it yet, it WILL call 911 and you might have some "splainin" to do.
